What is an exercise plan?
An exercise plan at MetFit-Rx is a personalized program that combines cardiovascular exercise, such as walking, jogging, biking, or swimming, with strength-training. When paired with healthy diet changes and weight loss medications for eligible participants, exercise can slowly transform your body and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
What are the benefits of exercise plans?
Getting regular exercise offers numerous benefits, including:
More energy
Improved mood
Enhanced body composition (less body fat and more lean mass)
Lower blood pressure
Improved blood sugar control
Healthier cholesterol levels
Better hormone balance
Enhanced weight management
Improved quality of life
Longer life expectancy
Better sleep
Regular exercise also helps you maintain a healthy body weight after achieving your goals.
Which exercise plan is best suited for me?
Your MetFit-Rx provider meets with you to determine which exercise plan is right for you. They complete an initial medical consultation, including a metabolic evaluation and eligibility screening for weight loss medications.
Your provider weighs you, assesses your blood pressure and other vital signs, and completes a physical exam. They may order lab testing and additional diagnostic tests when necessary.
Your weight loss specialist also measures your VO2 max, the amount of oxygen your body consumes during exercise. A high VO2 max means your lungs and heart effectively supply blood to your muscles and efficiently use blood oxygen. It indicates a high fitness level.
To determine VO2 max, you can run on a treadmill or ride a stationary bike. You’ll gradually increase your intensity to full-capacity exercise, while you wear a mask and heart rate monitor. Your provider measures the amount of oxygen you take in and carbon dioxide you exhale while working out.
What are the different types of exercise plans?
Examples of different types of exercise plans your weight loss specialist may recommend include:
Low-intensity steady-state cardio (LISS)
LISS is a type of cardiovascular exercise in which you work out at a lower intensity at a steady pace for longer time periods. This type of exercise helps you burn calories and excess body fat, while improving cardiovascular endurance for optimal heart health. Walking is a common form of LISS.
High-intensity interval training (HIIT)
HIIT cycles higher-intensity bouts of exercise with lower-intensity recovery periods. This form of exercise helps burn fat and improve cardiovascular endurance and speed. These workouts are often shorter than LISS, but you’ll likely be breathing harder during the sweat sessions.
Strength training
Strength training is designed to increase strength and build or maintain muscle mass. Examples include weight lifting, using resistance bands, and using your own body weight as resistance. Strength training helps enhance muscle definition, burn fat, and improve overall body function.
You’ll also have access to health coaching, custom nutrition plans, lab monitoring, lifestyle support, weight loss medications (if you’re eligible) like semaglutide and tirzepatide, and routine follow-up care during your weight loss journey at MetFit-Rx.
